Orwellian Obscenity

Janno was crying. Watching the most harrowing of scenes from Ukraine, the forced separation of husbands and fathers, from their families. In the knowledge that the decision of just one man, would eventuate in enormous numbers of widows and orphans.

'The Putin regime is an Orwellian Obscenity,’ said Johnno.

What was it about the Saps thought Alphy, that throughout their history, authoritarian male dictators were allowed to emerge and inevitably take their countries to war, or murder millions of their citizens, or both.

Now thanks to their scientific and technical skills far exceeding their sociopolitical capabilities, the Saps had a Terrifying Trifecta, Kim Jong-un, Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin; posing a potential existential threat, with their arsenals of nuclear weapons.

Back on AC, they were yet again downgrading the likelihood of the Saps being a sustainable life-from. However, over time, despite their many flaws Alphy had developed a fondness for the Saps, and through his reports, had in turn endeared the Saps to many Centaurians back home. Albeit, in much the same way the Saps often loved troublesome but cute puppies.

Back on AC, Centaurian skin colour was entirely under their physiological control, and was subject to the vagaries of fashion at the time. Alphy wished he could tell Johnno and Janno, how proud he was, that in a rare display of Cosmic Connectedness they had dedicated a day to the people of Ukraine, and adopted skin colours of Yellow and Blue

'Biden for all his flaws has helped resurrect the unity and co-operation of the democratic alliance across Europe. Can you imagine where we would be now if Trump was still President,’ said Johhno. ‘Narcissus Nihilism versus Demented Despot-BOOM.’

'Meanwhile back home we have the disaster of the floods up North. Luckily, we have a Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister with the leadership qualities of Zelensky,’ snorted Johnno.

’As usual Morrison has enacted the Scomo Slumber and has watched events pass him by, or to be precise flood by, before emerging a week after cities have been submerged, to belatedly announce, the bleeding obvious, a state of emergency.

'And can you believe Barnaby (I’m a man of the regional people, hence the hat,) Joyce, claiming the floods were a 1 in a 3,500 year event. Which incidentally, is about the same odds as someone of his capabilities, actually making it to the position of Deputy Prime Minister.’

'If the events of the last few weeks haven’t convinced the Nats of climate change, what would?’ Asked Alphy.

'Probably would take a glacier in the Hunter Valley. But no doubt Barnaby would dismiss that as a 1 in 1 million year event. Glacial being a good description of the pace of change of Climate Change policies of the Coalition.

'Finally, to cap off a wonderful news week, the premature death of Shane Warne.’ Speaking of flawed but likeable Saps, he was the quintessential Aussie Larrikin, thought Alphy.

'Warnie elevated one of the great human endeavours, Test Cricket, to a new pinnacle.’ Alphy, who much to his surprise, had come to appreciate and love the game, nodded in agreement.

'In an age of vanilla personalities, we loved his forthright honesty, passion, and insight.’

'Gee we’ll miss him,’ said Janno, with tears rolling down her cheeks again.
